Random Ramblings

1. We have all been sick this week. Charlie and I both have colds and Lily has bronchitis. We are waiting for the other shoe to drop and hit Bj on the way down. (Fingers crossed it misses.)
2. The quilt gallery has been updated. I predict this will be the end all of tutorials when it is finished. Every single thing you ever wanted to know about how to (or how not to, that is still to be determined) make a quilt.
3. I really miss taking photos every day. But lucky for me, A Day in the Life Photography is now booking sessions for 2010. And soon there will be a very cool and pretty website for you to look at. Whoo hoo.
4. I need to design a new banner soon. Love is in the air.
5. I don't even know what to say. He just really is this cute :)
I also don't know what to say about the color-again, it looks gray and flat here. It doesn't in photoshop. What is going on?

Step one

Get the fabric.
Now what? Should I wash it? I'm afraid it will fray. Thanks for all the book suggestions-just haven't gotten to the library to check them out. Oh and I am in LOVE with this fabric :)

It's official.

I am going to make a quilt. I have said for years that one of my goals in life is to make a quilt. I am fascinated by all things handmade. I love the subtle imperfections (well in my stuff at least.) I love the time and love put in. I love using these handmade items too. Yes, actually using them. I cherish the afghan that my Grandma Rinehart made and although I don't allow it to become part of any indoor tent making, I use it. I cherish my Christmas Tree Skirt Mrs. Troyer made. I love putting it under my tree every year. I love seeing Lily (and Charlie) wear the apron I made. My first apron and while it has seen better days, I love that it gets used. I made all of the Willis/Pershey/Dillow family gifts this year (with the exception of PW's book, but she handmade it right?) headbands and CD's (which more will come on that soon, but Bj and I wrote a children's album called Jack and Jill and as soon as I can get over my copyright infringement fear I will share more.)
 So my very first quilt is going to go to my first child. And let me just say how excited I am about it. Not only because I AM going to do this, but I get to use my very favorite paper line ever. In fabric. Lookie lookie.
When I saw it I gasped. Then I reached for my phone. Then I put it down and thought screen grab. Blog? Update my status? No don't want it to sell out. Phone. Call Elizabeth. Frantically tell her to check her email. Email quickly. Sound like a crazy person. Isn't it just beautiful? I can't wait. I have already emailed my friend Renee for some advice, but any quilters out there, if you have any tips, please share. I will be doing a twin size quilt, measuring aproximately 72x88. I am doing 8" squares (plus the added .5 for seam allowance.) I would love to do something cool like this on the back (scroll down to see the back.) I am not planning on actually quilting it myself, but when I called the local quilt store I kind of got a "Are you crazy lady? We don't do that here" kind of response. Anyone know of someone? How much will that cost? What else do I need to know? Please share. I can't wait to hear what you say :) I am going to be a quilter.

Our cool park and some other fun things

We have some pretty cool parks around here-this one complete with a very, very cool train.
And COWS! Ok, so there not exactly at the park, but there is a huge farm right next to it and boy were all the cows cool.

In unrelated cow news, I made Lily an apron last night. Just don't look at it too closely. Trust me I will not be starring on Project Runway any time soon.
