So for the record, I haven't really gotten that into the Grammy's the past few years. I don't know if it was me not connecting with the music as much, or the lack of new music in the Burg, but I wasn't really rooting for anyone (like my insane rooting for Lauyrn Zionmustbeincollegenowsocomeoutofretirementplease Hill) in particular.
That all changed this year.
91.3 The Summit started playing more new music more often. 87.7 started up. And I got horribly sick and was gifted Babel, by Mumford and Sons.
I don't know if there has been an album since that compilation tape of Manhattan Transfer (Yes! I like you too! Comment on my blog now Laurel Massé!!) or every single Ben Folds album that I have loved more than Babel. It is on constant repeat in my house and any time I hear "I Will Wait." It will be a winning Superbowl for me if Mumford and Sons sweep the Grammys. It may also mean a few more concerts in the US (perhaps in Cleveland or Akron please!)
I also have been listening to some pretty amazing compilations from Elizabeth and a few of my live in the computer friends, Nadine and Mindi. Wow good taste in music. So here are some recent (and perhaps not so recent) favorites I have been listening to lately. Cburg girls, pay attention-this is kind of your next mixed tape from me ;)
Allen Stone-Sleep
Phillip Phillips-Home and Wicked Game (just heard that today on 91.3. When I first heard "Home" I was shocked to find out he was an Americal Idol winner...cause yeah, never watched that show
Mumford and Sons-the entire album, but especially I Will Wait
Ian Axel-Girl I Got a Thing for You, This is the New Year (just on Glee!!) and We Are
Matt Nathanson-Come on Get Higher (Thanks Nadine!)
The Lumineers-Ho Hey
Avett Brothers-I And Love And You
Justin Timberlake-Suit & Tie (Yes a bit of a departure, but I cannot resist Justin :)
Adele-Someone Like You (Still love Adele...)
Jack White-I'm Shakin'
Alison Krauss-Down to the River to Pray (forgot how much I love that song)
I know there is more, namely one song by a girl who may or may not be named Katie or Jennifer whose band and song are completely alluding my brain at the moment. But If you haven't heard all of those songs, you definitely should :)
Go Mumford and Sons! Go! Fight! Win!

I have recently discovered spotify..lt is pretty amazing. I'll look up some of these there.
I feel exactly the same way about Mumford. They are so, so, so good.
Also: change your banner, dude. ;)

We are super hyped over here for the Children's category - go Okee Dokee Brothers! And their "Can You Canoe?" should be your next new music. Go now.

My oldest (college age) son got me hooked on Mumford and Sons - they're so good! If you like Babel try their album Sigh No More it's just as good.

I heard "Home" a few times thinking that it was actually a new Mumford song I just didn't know about.
I love Justin too, but hate, HATE, "Suit & Tie".
I'm glad you like Matt Nathanson! I also like Faster. Reminds me a bit of Jason Mraz.
